The College Board is a non-profit organization that aims to connect students to college success and opportunity, best known for administering standardized tests like the SAT and ACT. The College Board also offers the AP Capstone Program, a diploma program that equips high school students with college level research and communication skills by offering two year long courses, the AP Seminar and AP Research.

This was the first year that Stanhope Elmore High School offered the AP Seminar, part of the Capstone Program, taught by Kashundra Davis (Stanhope Elmore does not yet offer the AP Research Program as a follow up class but is hoping to add that course in the near future).

“The AP Seminar, part of the AP Capstone Program, challenges students to research, analyze, and present evidence-based arguments on complex topics,” said Mrs. Davis. “Students must complete team and individual projects, research papers, and an end-of-course exam to earn qualifying scores.”

28 students started the AP Seminar and 16 finished the course. Mrs. Davis recognized the following students:

Zoie Ball

Amiyah Chaney

Jayce Davis

Jaylen Hill

Alaya Holmes

Cassidy Little

DaJan Moore

Nyema Parker

Darien Phillips

Lyam Pugh

Blake Schleinkofer

Landon Taylor

Ariana Thames

JaKamren Webb

Grace Willoughby

Dawson Willis

“Every student met the rigorous standards required for AP success and earned college credit,” said Mrs. Davis.

The students were honored by Mrs. Davis in a celebration held at 17 Springs, recognizing their dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence. Mrs. Davis noted a special thanks to Robert Young, BJ Pernell, and Mrs. Maddox for helping make the celebration happen.
