A canvas, a paintbrush, and a few hydrangeas will soon help support one of Millbrook’s most important community resources. The Millbrook Art Mill will host a Hydrangea Painting Fundraiser on June 25, with proceeds benefiting programs and services at the Millbrook Public Library.

The class will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Millbrook Civic Center. Led by local artist Nancy Cooper, participants will create their own hydrangea painting while enjoying an evening of creativity and community connection. For Children’s Librarian Angela Dewberry, the fundraiser is about more than painting.

Funds raised through the event will help support children’s programming at the library, including the summer reading program. Dewberry said the Millbrook Library Board helps provide resources and support for programs that benefit local families throughout the year.

“The library board supports our needs and anything we need for the community,” Dewberry said.

While many people think of the library as a place to check out books, it also serves as a gathering place for story times, educational activities, special events, and programs that encourage lifelong learning. That’s one reason Dewberry believes events like the painting fundraiser are so valuable.

“It gives people an opportunity to support the library but also get together and do art and explore their own creativity,” she said. “Because they’re supporting the library, they’re supporting literacy and they’re supporting the children in the area.”

The fundraiser also reflects a partnership between the library, the Millbrook Art Mill, and local artist Nancy Cooper. Dewberry said bringing organizations together helps strengthen community connections while supporting both the arts and literacy.

The class is open to participants ages 15 and older. Registration is $40 per person and includes all painting supplies. Space is limited to 30 participants, and registration is expected to remain open until June 22nd or until the class reaches capacity.

Whether participants are experienced artists or simply looking for a fun evening out, each registration will help support programs that serve children and families across the Millbrook community.
