The Town of Elmore held its Oath of Office meeting on Monday, November 3, 2025, during which newly elected officials were sworn in by the Honorable Bill Lewis, Associate Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. Those taking the oath included Brandon Cardwell, the new Mayor of Elmore, and Katelyn Mercer, Place 5. A special retirement ceremony was also held in honor of former Mayor Margaret White.

Senator Chambliss read a resolution honoring Mayor Margaret White for her retirement and recognizing her 17 years of public service.

“The first time I met Mayor White, she had her britches legs rolled up. She was wading through a citizen of Elmore’s house, trying to help them get their belongings out of flood waters. So, when she got out of the water, I noticed she wasn’t wearing any shoes. I said, “Mayor, you can help all you want to, but if you are sick, and if you have an infection in your feet, and you cannot get around, then you cannot help anybody. So, you must take care of yourself first, and then you can help other people,” said Chambliss.

Greg Park with the Central Alabama Regions Planning spoke next and gave a proclamation honoring the retirement of Mayor Margaret White for the Town of Elmore.

Bart Mercer, chairman of the Elmore County Commission, praised White’s long-standing commitment to the community.

“Mayor White has done what is best for the community. I was there that day she was wading in the water. I have seen her picking up trash on the side of the road. I have seen her do all kinds of things, and that has always been impactful for me on serving your community and Mayor White, you surely have served your community well for a long time,” Mercer said.

Mayor-elect Brandon Cardwell delivered closing remarks to the audience, honoring Mayor White for her years of dedicated service to the Town of Elmore. In his address, Cardwell reflected on her leadership, commitment to the community, and the many ways she has positively impacted the lives of residents throughout her tenure.

“Just listening to all the accomplishments that Mayor White had throughout the years, I hope that I can carry on your legacy. I look forward to being able to be the mayor and carry on the legacy of Mayor White, and thank you all for being here,” said Mayor Elect Cardwell.
