The Tallassee City Council held its organizational meeting Monday, Nov. 3, where newly elected city officials were sworn in by the honorable Judge Pinkston.
Newly elected Mayor Joey Wiginton was first sworn into office, followed by the members of the Tallassee City Council and Board of Education.
For two newly elected members of the council this was their first time taking the Oath of Office. Carpenter Easterling to represent Ward 1, and Sarah Jones to represent Ward 6, are both entering their first term.
Wiginton addressed a packed room Tuesday night, expressing enthusiasm for the strong turnout.
“Thank you all for coming. Gosh, what a great crowd,” he said. “I don’t know if this is typical or not, but what a great crowd. I think people are ready to see Tallassee grow, and so I hope you’ll be behind the city council and myself.”
With optimism in his voice, Wiginton encouraged residents to dream big for Tallassee’s future.
“Let’s make it grow. Let’s do things that others will be proud of, and other cities will look at and say, ‘Wow, I didn’t know we could do that’. Let’s get it done.”
Wiginton wrapped things up with a grin, making it clear there was only one way to end the special occasion.
“I thought no better way to end this meeting than with a party,” he said.
