Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre takes a fresh turn this Christmas

From: Martha Wilkinson, Theatre Coordinator

Prattville Cultural Arts

There’s nothing quite like Christmas in Downtown Prattville; ice skating, carriage rides, a carousel- all amid a display of Christmas lights to rival no other! When you step into Downtown Prattville even the “Scroogiest” Scrooge will drop the “Bah Humbug” and exclaim, “Merry Christmas to All!” And right in the middle of all this holiday magic, is Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre!

This holiday season bring the family to the veritable Hallmark© town of Prattville and discover a fresh, funny, and heartfelt new holiday tradition with Closed for the Holidays. It’s a small-town comedy that delightfully shows what happens when a snowstorm strands a group of strangers in a community center on the night before Christmas Eve. Filled with laughs, warmth, and unexpected moments of grace, Closed for the Holidays reminds us that Christmas isn’t about perfect plans — it’s about the people who show up when everything goes wrong. A story of unexpected friendships, rediscovered faith, and the humor in being human.

The show is directed by James Henry. Henry directed last year’s hilarious hit Yule Y’all at WOBT. He has been an Actor, Director, and Fight Choreographer for nearly 20 years, working with theaters including Birmingham Children’s Theatre, Tecumseh! Outdoor Drama, and the Wetumpka Depot Theatre. A native of Montgomery, he received his BA in theatre from Faulkner University and his MFA in acting from Regent University. He has worked on shows ranging from Narnia to Zorro to Midsummer Night’s Dream and is always passionate about sharing his art here in the river region.

The cast of 20 is made up entirely of local actors who have delighted River Region audiences and a few making their stage debut right here at WOBT! Theatre Coordinator Martha Wilkinson says, “We are so thrilled to have all this talent of all ages in our theatre! Under James’ excellent direction this exceptional cast is going be so charming they are sure to leave audiences with the glow of holiday spirit.”
