The Prattville Farmer’s Market kicked-off its summer season at The Grove this Saturday – and people came out in droves to support local growers.
“We had several sold-out booths, and people just kept coming to see everything the market had to offer,” said Market Coordinator Barbara Simpson. “It was nothing short of a successful first weekend.”
From pickles, tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables to honey and sweets, the Prattville Market had a little bit of something for everyone.
Logan McCord and Kristen Irions with Wildflower Ridge Farms in Marbury had rave reviews for Day 1, as they sold eggs, jams, and fresh veggies.
“It’s always enjoyable to come out here – definitely something that we look forward to,” McCord said.
“There’s a great sense of community here in Prattville,” Irions said.
Willie Deramus Sr., part of Deramus Farms, sold tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and other vegetables for the opening weekend. They completely sold out.
“I always appreciate people coming out here and supporting us. They could always go to the supermarket, but they chose to support all the local growers instead. I think they just want something fresh,” Deramus laughed.
Allen Mills with Prattville Honey Farm was quick to agree with McCord, Irions and Deramus.
“I’ve been coming to this Market for around 20 years now and it’s always fantastic. It’s a little bit sweeter this year, though, because I think people were tired of being cooped up and were ready to have something to do,” Mills said.
If you missed the opportunity to come out the market this Saturday, there’s plenty more chances as summers rolls along.
The Prattville Farmer’s Market will be held at the Grove, across from Pratt Park, every Saturday from June 5– Aug. 28 from 7 a.m. – 12 noon. Many of the same vendors will be in attendance each weekend.
