The Captain William Bibb Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) commemorated Flag Day and the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary with a ceremony recognizing civic service, military dedication, and the enduring ideals of American citizenship. More than 50 members and guests attended the June 13 event at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wetumpka.

The program included remarks from The Honorable William “Bill” Lewis, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Alabama, patriotic music by Troy Helms, and greetings from National Vice President General Patrice Donnelly, Alabama First Vice Regent Janet Deaton, and Alabama Society Children of the American Revolution President Caroline Pennington. The Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard opened the ceremony.

Judge Lewis received the DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal in recognition of his distinguished record of public service and leadership. The chapter also presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Sergeant First Class Kirsten Marko of the Alabama National Guard, honoring her recent deployment and the chapter’s connection with her through DAR Project Patriot.

“Flag Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the responsibilities of citizenship,” said Chapter Regent Jane Burris. “We were honored to recognize individuals whose service and dedication help strengthen our communities and our nation.”

The Captain William Bibb Chapter expressed appreciation to all who attended and noted that the event was part of its ongoing participation in America 250 activities commemorating the nation’s semiquincentennial.
