The Autauga County Special Olympics Golf Team has spent the past five months preparing for an exciting opportunity to compete this weekend at the Area Special Olympics Games.

On Saturday, March 14 at 4:00 p.m., the athletes will compete at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville, where their putting, chipping, and driving skills will be evaluated and scored. Based on their performance, athletes may qualify to compete at the Special Olympics Alabama State Games in Troy this May.

This year’s Autauga County team includes golfers Justin, Smantha, Daniel, Tatum, Paul, Parker, Jonathan, John, Micah, and CJ. Each athlete has dedicated months of practice and hard work in preparation for the competition.

In addition to competing at the area level, two members of the team, Smantha Brasher and Justin Egbe have earned an extraordinary honor. Based on their scores from last year’s Special Olympics Alabama State Games, they were selected to represent the state of Alabama at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This marks the first time that golfers from Autauga County have been selected to compete at the national level.

Coaches and volunteers say they are incredibly proud of all the athletes and the dedication they have shown throughout the season.

The Autauga County Special Olympics Golf program began in 2022 and continues to grow each year, creating opportunities for athletes to compete, develop new skills, and build friendships through the game of golf.

The Autauga County Special Olympics Golf Team is also grateful for the continued support of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville. For the fourth consecutive year, the facility has generously allowed the athletes to practice on their beautiful course, providing an encouraging and professional environment where the athletes can train and prepare for competition.

“Having a place like Robert Trent Jones to practice means so much to our athletes,” organizers said. “They have always made our team feel welcome and valued, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support.”

The community is invited to cheer on these athletes as they compete this Saturday and represent Autauga County with pride.
