On Friday, January 30, 2026, at approximately 3:23 PM, Millbrook police and fire rescue units responded to a traffic collision at Highway 14 and Grandview Road. According to witness statements, officers learned that a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was traveling westbound on Highway 14, approaching the intersection of Highway 14 and Grandview Road. The driver of the S-10 attempted to execute a left turn from Highway 14 onto Grandview, when the vehicle was struck by a 2025 Ford Explorer, which was traveling eastbound on Highway 14. According to witnesses at the scene, both traffic signals, east and westbound, were green at the time the collision occurred.
Both the driver and passenger of the 2002 Chevrolet S-10 were transported to a local medical facility by Millbrook Fire Department paramedics, both having sustained injuries described as life threatening. The driver of the 2025 Ford Explorer was treated by paramedics at the scene and later transported to a local medical facility by private vehicle, for evaluation and treatment for her injuries.
Due to the severity of the injuries to the two victims occupying the Chevrolet pickup truck, the scene was turned over to the Millbrook Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit for investigation.
On Saturday, January 31, 2026, investigators learned that the passenger of the 2002 Chevrolet S-10, a 66 year-old Elmore resident, had succumbed to her injuries, being pronounced deceased. The driver of the Chevrolet S-10, a 73-year-old Wetumpka resident, remains in the hospital listed in critical, but stable condition.
“Since learning of the victim’s passing, I’ve had an opportunity to speak with our Traffic Homicide Unit regarding their investigation, which is still in its preliminary stage. At this time, we are not anticipating any criminal charges resulting from this investigation. Normally when a traffic collision results in death, our traffic homicide investigators conduct an investigation to determine if there are any mitigating factors that may have contributed to the collision, such as the use of drugs or alcoholic beverages by any of the drivers involved. Once their investigation is completed, the investigator’s findings are forwarded to the Elmore County District Attorney’s Office for presentation to the Elmore County Grand Jury, who will determine if there is sufficient probable cause for criminal prosecution,” said Johnson.
He continued, “As previously stated, based on our investigators preliminary investigation, we are not anticipating criminal charges being filed in this case. At this time, we are withholding the victim’s identity pending notification of the victim’s family members. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family, as well as all those involved in this tragic event.”
