Seay, Seay & Litchfield (SS&L) Architects presented the Alabama Council of the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA’s) 2025 Large-Project Excellence in Design Honorable Mention Award, Dec. 9, 2025, at the Millbrook City Council meeting.
The award recognizes excellence in design and the collaborative efforts of the City of Millbrook, Elmore County Economic Development Authority, Elmore County Schools, Elmore County Commission, and YMCA of Greater Montgomery in shaping a better built environment.
“On behalf of our team, we just want to express how grateful we are to have been a part of this great accomplishment,” said Jeff Bazzell, Principal Architect of SS&L Architects. “Each stakeholder brought their own priorities and perspectives to the 17 Springs project, and their insight really helped shape the state-of-the-art facility that we see today.”
Encompassing an impressive 85,000 square feet, the Fieldhouse at 17 Springs takes center stage, featuring a versatile gymnasium accommodating four basketball courts and eight volleyball courts as well as essential amenities such as meeting rooms, locker rooms, administration space, and a concessions area.
Positioned adjacent to the football stadium and running track, the complex also extends to include four soccer fields, twelve tennis courts, twelve pickleball courts, and four softball and little league baseball fields.
“This project represents what years of hard work and partnership can accomplish,” said Al Kelley, Mayor of Millbrook. “We’re proud of Seay, Seay & Litchfield’s dedication to 17 Springs and what it means for the future of our city.”
