Elmore County man found guilty of manslaughter in 2023 shooting death of teen

From: Office of the District Attorney CJ Robinson

Elmore County

On November 6, 2025, following a four-day trial, an Elmore County jury found 41 year old Jason Lee Gosdin guilty of Manslaughter (a Class B felony, punishable by 10-20 years). Gosdin caused the death of 19 year old Christian Jace Baker.

In the early morning hours of February 27, 2023, the defendant, Jason Gosdin, received a phone call from his ex-wife asking hm to come pick up their teenage daughter from her house because they were arguing. The defendant became enraged and began yelling threats that he was “going to clear that whole house out,” and everybody over there was going to “get some.” The defendant proceeded to drive to the residence of his ex-wife.

The victim, Jace Baker, was sitting in the backseat of a car in the yard of Gosdin’s ex wife. There was another young man sitting in the driver’s seat of the car. When the defendant arrived at the residence he got out of his vehicle with a gun in his hand, approached the young man sitting in the driver’s seat of the car and attacked him by striking him in the face with the pistol. The defendant then fired a shot which struck Baker in the groin area.

Jace Baker jumped out of the car and ran approximately 200 yards before collapsing in the woods. The victim called 911 and while speaking to the 911 operator he uttered the last words of his life, “Jason shot me.” The victim succumbed to his injuries from the gunshot wound and died on the scene.

District Attorney CJ Robinson said, “Unfortunately, senseless gun violence has become a way of life in our society. Jace Baker found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when Jason Gosdin arrived armed and enraged. Those who lack self control must face the consequences and penalties when they engage in such dangerous behavior. Sadly, for the Baker family, they will forever count the cost of those actions.”

Jason Gosdin is set to be sentenced on December 11 by Circuit Judge Amanda Baxley.
