A Memorial Day Observation will be held in Eclectic at Veterans Are Hero’s Park, located at 105 W College St., on Monday, May 26 at 10 a.m.
Elmore County native and decorated U.S. Air Force veteran Lt. Colonel Allan Tucker (Ret.) will take the stage as keynote speaker at this year’s Memorial Day Observance bringing with him decades of experience in military leadership, logistics, and defense strategy.
A graduate of Elmore County High School, Lt. Col. Tucker’s journey has taken him from the heart of Alabama to critical command roles across the globe. Throughout his distinguished Air Force career, he served in key logistics and program management positions, including aircraft maintenance, depot operations, and strategic planning.
One of his most notable achievements was leading a $450 million program to replace the engines on the U-2 reconnaissance aircraft fleet. His leadership not only ensured the project was completed on time and under budget but also secured the sustainability of the U-2 program by mitigating skyrocketing maintenance costs projected over the next decade.
As Commander of the 2nd Munitions Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, Tucker led the largest munitions squadron in the U.S. Air Force, overseeing over 600 personnel and managing a $2.5 billion inventory. Under his leadership, the squadron rose from being the lowest rated in the command to receiving the prestigious Best Munitions Squadron in the Air Force within two years.
His excellence in logistics continued at Dyess Air Force Base in Texas, where he commanded maintenance and supply operations for 40 B-1 bombers valued at over $11 billion, supervising a team of 1,200 personnel and introducing Lean inspection procedures that became a model for Air Force operations.
After retiring from the military, Tucker transitioned seamlessly into the defense industry as Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development at ECI Defense Group in Tennessee. In his first year alone, he captured $30 million in new business and built strategic partnerships that doubled the company’s sales.
Tucker holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy State University and a BS in Speech Communications from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Among his numerous military awards are the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with three clusters, and campaign medals for service in Southwest Asia and the Gulf War.
With his vast experience in leadership, logistics, and strategic innovation, Tucker promises to deliver an inspiring and insightful keynote address that draws on a career dedicated to service, problem-solving, and mission success.
