A longtime Prattville City Councilman for District 1, Albert Striplin, passed away this morning, surrounded by his loving family and friends. The City of Prattville has announced that in honor and remembrance of Councilor Albert Striplin, flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment.
Striplin was elected to the Prattville City Council in 2011 and was serving his third term in office. He and his wife, Theresa Diane Clark, are lifetime residents of Prattville. They have one son, Blake Striplin, and his wife, Ashley. He was a proud grandfather to granddaughter Grace.
Councilman Striplin graduated from Prattville High School and earned a B. S. in Finance at Alabama University at Tuscaloosa and LSU School of Banking. He was retired, but previously employed with the Bank of Prattville for over 35 years as Director and President, and President of Key Finance Co., Inc. for 30 years, before its closing in 2015.
Albert was an active member of First Methodist Church, where he served in the choir and as a pianist for the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was also an active serving member of Eagle Scout (Troop #25), and Master Gardener (8,000+ volunteer hours). Councilman Striplin has served our community in the past years through service to the following organizations: Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee, Autauga Area Community Foundation, Central Alabama Community Foundation, Leadership Autauga County, Leadership Alabama, Prattville Kiwanis Club, Prattville YMCA, and Historic Prattville Redevelopment Authority.
His friend, fellow Councilman Marcus Jackson, spoke of his respect for Striplin. Health issues had kept Striplin from regularly attending council meetings recently, but at times he would participate via video calls. Jackson said he has comfort in knowing Striplin was a mighty man of God, and he is now completely healed and at peace.
Jackson said that Striplin was a private, and quiet man, but when he spoke people would listen.
“I am profoundly saddened by the passing of my friend and colleague Councilor Albert Striplin. His commitment to faith, family, and integrity set a shining example for all who knew him,” Jackson said. “The city of Prattville has suffered a great loss with his departure. Councilor Striplin’s honesty, wisdom, and dedication to living out his Christian faith through his actions touched the lives of many in the community. My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and citizens of District One as we come to terms with this profound loss. May his memory and legacy of public service be a source of comfort and inspiration during this difficult time.”
We will share more information as it becomes available, including any statement from the City of Prattville.
