We are happy to announce that the Humane Society of Elmore County is joining other Shelters across the country by participating in the ASPCA’s Rescue Effect Campaign, August through October. This Campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of pet adoption and fostering so that all Shelters can place more animals into loving homes.
With summer vacations wrapping up, now is a great time to add a new pet to your family, or perhaps see if you can help us as a foster family. We are still packed with oodles of kittens in need of homes, some gloriously wonderful puppies and always so many loving adult dogs and cats wanting their chance at new lives full of love and care.
We will have special waived/reduced fee adoption promotions on 9 & 23 Aug, 13 & 21 Sep and 11 & 25 Oct. All of our normal adoption application & appointment procedures apply. While you can always apply for a specific pet, you can also tell us what you are looking for with as many parameters that you need to tell us – for dogs, things like size range (how big is too big or under what weight), age range you are willing to consider, breed likes/dislikes, help us see if we might have a potential fit. While most Wish Apps we receive are for small breed type dogs, please keep in mind that they are generally less than 5% of our dog population and mostly always adult – very rare for us to get small breed puppies.
Sadly, that means we have many medium and larger dogs who stay with us far longer as they wait for a family to see all the love they have to give. We still have oodles of kittens and some wonderful adult cats as well and you always get to meet all of the kittens and cats so you can find that perfect match. So, get those apps in so we can get you scheduled for a, hopefully, huge adoption day this coming Saturday!
