Institutional Day at 17 Springs was held Friday for all employees of Elmore County Schools. This was the first time doing the event since Covid, and the first time using the beautiful new 17 Springs facility. With summer coming to an end, a new school year beckons, and employees were asked to go in with positivity!
This event was a vibrant celebration that marks the start of a new school year across Elmore County. Around 1,500 dedicated employees were in attendance that work for Elmore County Public Schools in various areas.
District Judge Ben Baxley spoke to the attendees about chronic absenteeism. He stated since last year, it went from 20% down to 12%, which is remarkable.
Baxley said a new initiative is now occurring called “Stay in the Game.” Billboards throughout Elmore County and signage at the schools will be going up.
The idea is “Stay In the Game, attendance matters. Schools plus attendance equals a lifetime of success.”
Motivational Guest Speaker was Dr. Kevin Elko. He spoke through Zoom and talked about the “No Offense Zone.”
In essence, it means:
– Stop Complaining
– Stop getting offended
– Stup having self pity parties.
“Be a fountain; stay away from drains. Learn how NOT to quit, Keep Choppin.”
“Learn how to be in the moment. Learn how to be where your feet are. Decide to be happy!”
Superintendent Richard Dennis spoke to his employees on a new vision for 2025-2026 school year focusing on the mind, body, and character.
“I am excited for the new year and to focus on the development of the whole child, the mind, the body, and the character and working with our faculty and staff to achieve that same goal,” said Dennis.
