A Hot Dog Eating contest is coming to 17 Springs Sept. 1, which may bring up some memories of the past for older area residents. The deadline to register is approaching.
Uncle Bob’s Doghouse was once a popular spot in Millbrook. It burned down in the 1980s. However, for years the business sponsored a hot dog eating contest that gained national attention. It was the first known televised event in Millbrook in the 1970s on ABC Worldwide Sports, according to family members. (See below for some photos submitted by the family.)
Family members of the original owner are bringing the contest back. They are starting this event again, with hopes it will become another tradition. At least 20 contestants are needed.
As part of the All American Bash event, there will be food trucks on site as well. The event is Sept. 1, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 17 Springs, located at 99 Field house Way in Millbrook. To contact the organizer, call Robert Harmon at (334) 657-0295.
The entry fee for the contest has been reduced to $10 per person.
Here are the hot dog eating contest rules.
1 -Entries must notify Uncle Bob’s or designated officials of their intent to enter the new, inaugural HOT DOG EATING CONTEST.
2-$10.00 entry fee for each person entering! (This lets organizers know you’re getting down to serious business!) All Hot Dogs and dunking water will be included.
3- Contestants must remain in the original position where you’re seated. Sitting/ standing will be allowed in your spot, however contestants will not be allowed to move around or walk.
4- THERE WILL BE A TIME LIMIT OF 10 MINUTES FOR ALL CONTESTANTS!
5 -Contestants who become ill or choose to take restroom visits during the contest will be DISQUALIFIED!
6- CONTESTANTS MUST ENTER by AUGUST 20th 2025
7- In case of a tie, the Winner will be chosen by the JUDGES DECISIONS!
8- All contestants must be over the age of 18 unless Authorized and Accompanied by a legal guardian!

For the past four years, Uncle Bob’s Sauces and Rubs has been carrying on the family legacy. Currently there are seven rubs, three sauces and two hot sauces.
The business hopes to someday market their products nationally.
There is also a cooking show called “Cooking with Uncle Bob” that can be found on Youtube, TikTok and Instagram.
