Members of the Elmore County Board of Education recently received updates on several ongoing construction projects taking place throughout the school system. Among the updates were two projects that fall under Elmore County’s Quality of Life initiatives, aimed at improving campus facilities and enhancing the overall student experience across multiple schools.

Superintendent Richard Dennis provided a timeline for the work being done at football fields at both Elmore County High School in Eclectic and Holtville High School.

“Both football fields are expected to be completed in time for graduation,” Dennis said.

According to Dennis, both the improvements on the football field at Holtville High School and the nearby parking area are nearing completion.

“The parking at Holtville is supposed to be paved too, which will hopefully look very nice,” Dennis noted. “The Holtville project will probably be the first to be completed.”

Progress at Elmore County High School is expected to take longer due to ongoing use of the facilities.

“The amount of work being done at Eclectic is extensive, including a plaza,” Dennis explained. “It couldn’t be done during baseball season. As soon as baseball season ends, the project will move forward at full speed without obstruction, and they should be able to complete it in time for football season, next year”

In Wetumpka, construction projects are underway at the former high school building, Tech Center, and elementary school.

“If you’ve been by Wetumpka Elementary School, you’ve seen the front entrance area has been taken down—that project is underway,” Dennis said. “They’re also pouring the foundation at the Tech Center for the diesel mechanic shop.”

Work is also progressing on the former Wetumpka High School building, and the project is expected to come in under budget.

“They’re working on it currently,” Dennis said. “To repair all that needs to be repaired isn’t going to be the major project we originally anticipated. It’s going to cost some money, but we’re staying inside the budget.”

That work could be completed as soon as mid-July.

Renovations to the Wetumpka High School cafeteria are scheduled to begin May 15.

Lastly, the roof replacement project at Airport Road Intermediate School has already been completed.
