Elmore Autauga News

September was National Honey month and a time to celebrate everything about the bees and honey. The Alabama Nature Center hosted their fourth annual Honey Festival last week. Over 250 people attended this wonderful event that included live music, vendors, plants, presentations, food, and fun kid crafts. A general fee of $5 was the cost for admission. All proceeds went back to the Alabama Nature Center.

P’zazz Art Studio was on site with artwork for the children to paint. There was a presentation by Kristen McCord about honeybees, native bees and bee keeping. Another presentation was by Tammy Smith on all about honey. The kid crafts included a bee water station craft, and a seed bomb craft. A movie special of “A Bee’s Life” was playing in the theatre room.

There was a live musical performance by the Lacy Lynn Band. Local honey from Southern Sweet Bee, Lanark live plant sales, and a variety of vendors were on site with merchandise for sale.

“We hosted our 4th Annual ANC Honey Festival that included lots of activities for guests including live music, kid’s crafts, food, specialty vendors, plant sale, and presentations,” said Matt Vines, ANC Camps and Coordinator Director.

He continued, “The focus of the event was to highlight not only the importance of Honeybees and their roll in pollination but the importance of other native bees and pollinators in Alabama. It also provides an opportunity for families to get outdoors together.

“We had a wonderful group of vendors this year including Southern sweet bees, Darla Tiesling, perfectly posh, Mimi’s designs, bottle tree Bob, Polar Tropical shaved ice, and Mscraftprincess. Pzazz art studio joined us as well and had some painting activities for the kids to enjoy. I also want to thank all our staff and volunteers for coming and helping make this event a success.”
