The Millbrook City Council approved an increase in ambulance service fees during its June 23 meeting, marking the first adjustment to the city’s rates in more than a decade.
Council members unanimously approved Ordinance 26-04, amending the city’s emergency services ordinance to update charges for ambulance transport based on the level of care provided, including basic and advanced life support services.
Under the new ordinance, ambulance service rates are:
- Basic life support: $550
- Advanced life support: $700
- Advanced life support, Level 2: $850
- Mileage: $15 per mile
Millbrook Fire Chief Larry Brown said the changes bring Millbrook’s rates in line with those charged by the City of Prattville while remaining below rates charged by many private ambulance providers.
“This adjusts the amount we are charging for ambulance runs,” Brown said. “What we did was raise ours to match Prattville’s. This is below what most private ambulance companies charge.”
Brown said the city’s ambulance billing rates had not been increased since 2013.
City officials said the updated rates are intended to help offset rising operational costs while improving the city’s ability to recover expenses through insurance reimbursements and maintain emergency medical services for the community.
