Downtown Wetumpka gets a colorful new postcard mural

From: Haley Greene, Executive Director Main Street Wetumpka

Wetumpka, Alabama

Wetumpka, AL — Downtown Wetumpka just got brighter! A bold, postcard-themed mural now welcomes residents and visitors to the heart of the city, celebrating the natural beauty, historic charm, and vibrant community that make Wetumpka a place people love to explore.

Created by Columbus, Georgia artist Christopher Johnson, the mural combines vivid colors and detailed imagery to capture the essence of Wetumpka, the “City of Natural Beauty.” Positioned at 201 Hill Street, the artwork invites passersby to pause, snap photos, and see downtown from a new perspective.

“Wetumpka is a lovely town and it was such a great experience to build on the city’s beautification efforts with this mural,” said Johnson. “The postcard theme allowed me to combine the vast array of things that make Wetumpka a special place to live into one artistic piece. This mural really hit the mark, adding a pop of color to downtown and creating a photo opportunity for visitors. I would invite everyone to come spend the day and see all that Alabama’s City of Natural Beauty has to offer.”

The mural is located on The Lofts at Bridge & Hill, a prime downtown property owned by Freddie Lynn & Webb Smith that offers short-term rentals in a central location. “Our vision has always been to energize downtown by creating an active and welcoming corner,” said Lynn. “This mural is a key part of that effort. We are grateful for the support and leadership of Main Street Wetumpka in helping make our community an even better place to live, work, and shop.”

The project was made possible through close collaboration between the property owners, the artist, and Main Street Wetumpka, with grant funding support in part from Main Street Alabama.

“This mural represents the power of partnership,” said Haley N. Greene, Executive Director of Main Street Wetumpka. “With support from Main Street Alabama and the dedication of local property owners and artists, we can continue building momentum in downtown Wetumpka. Public art plays a vital role in creating energy, encouraging foot traffic, and enhancing the overall experience for everyone who visits.”

Visitors are encouraged to stop by, take photos, and explore downtown Wetumpka’s shops, restaurants, and attractions. Be sure to add the upcoming Mural Celebration to your calendar on March 27 at 6 PM and join us downtown as we officially celebrate this newest addition to our growing public art collection.
