Prattauga Art Guild to host annual Paint Prattville Plein Air event in March

From: Dixie Art Colony Foundation

Prattville, Alabama

We are excited to announce that River Region artist Barbara Binford Davis will be a participant in this year’s event. Barbara is a well-known, seasoned plein air artist.

Join the PRATTAUGA ART GUILD on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at the PRATTVILLE CREATIVE ARTS CENTER in Historic Downtown Prattville for the “PAINT PRATTVILLE: Annual Downtown Plein Air Painting Event!”  Artists from throughout the River Region will converge on Prattville to paint the sites and scenes of the city. Artists are encouraged to check in each morning at the Prattville Creative Arts Center at 342 South Chestnut Street. The Center will provide refreshments and restroom access as a home base. Other public restrooms are located at Spillway Park and 124 West Main Street. If you are an artist and love painting outdoors, or you are simply an art enthusiast, please plan to attend. Participation is FREE of charge. Participants are not required to be members of the Prattauga Art Guild, but artists should register with the City of Prattville Cultural Arts Department.

Plein air painting, or “en plein air” in French, is the practice of painting outside. It’s different from studio painting because it allows artists to capture their subjects’ natural light and color. During the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, this was the primary type of painting practiced by artists associated with the Dixie Art Colony and the DAC Bayou Painters. Examples of plein air painting by Dixie Art Colonists and the DAC Bayou Painters will be on display at the Prattville Creative Arts Center.

Shown are a few charming scenes that can be found in beautiful and historic downtown Prattville. Numerous public restrooms are located throughout downtown Prattville.
