The Millbrook City Council approved site development plans, Jan. 27, 2026, for a new Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) building that will house expanded educational programs.
The multi-purpose facility will be constructed adjacent to the Alabama Nature Center (ANC) on the AWF Lanark campus in Millbrook. Plans call for a building that includes a garage and conference space and is designed to complement the existing nature center.
“It will look architecturally similar to the nature center,” said Anita Weaver, planning and zoning administrator for the City of Millbrook. “The specific landscaping will also be kept natural with the trees and such in the area.”
AWF currently offers a range of educational programs at ANC, including Early Explorers, scouting programs, and spring and summer camps. As participation continues to grow, additional space is essential to support the expanding programs.
“This will be about a 5,000 square foot addition to the existing property,” said Drew Brown, vice president of Stone Martin Commercial. “It’s going to be used as a learning center but will also house golf carts and animals that are used in the teaching process.”
