Elaina (Lainey Grace) Lind, a 16-year-old native of Prattville, Alabama, recently auditioned for “American Idol,” transforming a lifelong passion for music into a national opportunity fueled by the support of her family, friends, and faith.

After encouragement from her older sister, Maggie Jane Lind, who has been pursuing the singing competition for several years, Lind decided to audition as well. While music has always been a constant in her life, she said the experience deepened her connection with her family, particularly her bond with her sister.

“I decided to audition for ‘American Idol’ because I’ve always loved music and performing, but it was also something my sister has been passionate about and pushed me to try it out,” said Lind. “We’ve always been really close, but my whole experience with ‘American Idol’ really brought us closer.”

Music, Lind said, has been a constant since childhood. With the flexibility of homeschooling, she began performing at just seven years old alongside four of her older sisters, singing the national anthem at college sporting events, competing in local talent shows, and volunteering in church.

“I started singing because it was something that I found so much fulfilment in, especially in church,” said Lind. “I felt that was how God could use me to share with others. So, whether I’m singing in church to God or performing on big stages across the country someday, it’s all for the purpose of glorifying Him.”

While waiting for her audition, Lind’s nerves began to set in, but she said she focused on prayer and staying grounded in her purpose.

“I hoped that I would be able to be light to someone,” said Lind. “I just praised God for the opportunity to meet so many amazing people while waiting for my audition and making connections to people I never thought I would meet.”

Lind’s parents said they are proud of their daughter. Having instilled the importance of integrity, motivation, and dedication within her from a young age, they believe Lind’s character will serve her well in life and could help set her apart in the competition.

“Lainey has a genuine love and care for others that is evident to anyone who knows her,” said her mom, Andrea. “She isn’t motivated by personal gain, but by a desire to use the gifts God has given her for His glory.”

Lind’s mother said the family was initially hesitant to allow her to audition, given her young age. After witnessing Maggie Jane’s multiple auditions, they understood the possibility of disappointment but ultimately wanted to give Lind that same chance to pursue her dream.

“As a family, we tend to take things as they come,” said Lind’s mom. “We approached the experience with excitement and a willingness to navigate each step as it unfolded.”

Tune in to ABC on Jan. 26, 2026, at 7 p.m. to see if Lind’s performance secures her a golden ticket to Hollywood.
