Mayor Bill Gillespie announced the appointment of Dawn Russell as interim executive assistant, Jan. 6, 2026, during his report at the Prattville City Council meeting. The appointment follows the resignation of former executive assistant Lisa Byrd.

In her interim role, Russell will provide administrative and organizational support to the mayor’s office, including managing schedules, coordinating communication, and assisting with day-to-day operations to ensure the office runs smoothly.

Russell previously served as the city’s cemetery and grant administrator and will continue to maintain those responsibilities while serving in her new role.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as interim executive assistant to the mayor and look forward to working alongside city leadership to support the continued progress of the City of Prattville,” said Russell.
