Millbrook Police Department
On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, a Millbrook police officer observed a U-Haul truck travelling westbound on Highway, near Kelley Blvd, noting that the vehicle had no working rear taillights. The officer activated his emergency equipment, signaling the vehicle to stop. The vehicle continued westbound, refusing to stop, proceeding into Prattville. The Prattville Police Department was notified of the pursuit and responded to the area to assist.
The vehicle turned onto McQueen Smith Road, proceeding southbound, towards US-Highway 82. As the vehicle approached the intersection of McQueen Smith and Highway 82, the Prattville Police Department successfully deployed a spike strip system, which deflated several of the vehicle’s tires. The vehicle continued westbound on Highway 82, coming to a final stop in the 1300 block of US-Highway 82. The alleged offender, later identified as Iziah Giles, a 26-year-old Troy resident, was taken into custody, without incident, being charged with Attempting to Elude.
Giles was transported to the Millbrook Police Department for processing and later transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he remains under a $1000.00 bond.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Prattville Police Department for their assistance in ending this vehicle pursuit and the apprehension of the alleged offender in this case. Had this individual simply stopped when our officer activated his emergency equipment, the likelihood is that the officer would have notified him of the violation and issued him a warning citation. The initial goal for the traffic stop was to make sure that the driver was aware that he was operating a vehicle with no working taillights and hopefully remedy a traffic safety issue. Even if the officer decided to cite the driver for the violation, he would have had the option of repairing the lights and the ticket would have been dismissed prior to the court date, providing that the repair was completed within the prescribed time allowed for the repair. As it stands now, because of this young man’s decision to flee, placing himself and others in jeopardy, he faces fines and possible jail time as the consequences of his actions. Attempting to Elude law enforcement never improves one’s situation, creates a danger for all involved, as well as the public navigating the roadways, and results in serious legal consequences for the perpetrator.
