On December 15, 2025, Millbrook police responded to the Dollar General, located at 4941 Main Street, with regard to a report of theft by deception. Officers were advised that (3) individuals entered the business, initiating transactions to preload gift cards, facilitating the transaction using a credit/debit card, receiving cash during the transactions, after which the alleged offenders cancelled the transaction through the debit/credit card provider. This resulted in a financial loss to the business. Responding officers completed a report documenting the incident, notating that there was video of the incident captured by the video surveillance system utilized by the victim business. This case was forwarded to the department’s Criminal Investigations Unit.
Shortly after this offense was reported, individuals matching the descriptions of the alleged offenders in this case were reported to have committed a similar offense at a nearby Dollar General in Elmore County but outside of the Millbrook Police Department’s jurisdiction.
On January 6th, pursuant to an investigation, Amahji Truss, a 23-year-old Deatsville resident, was placed under arrest and charged with Theft of Property (By Deception) 1st Degree. Truss was transported to the Elmore County Jail where he remains under a $35,000.00 bond.
Despite our best efforts to educate the public with regard to the fact that most businesses today utilize surveillance systems and employ loss prevention staff to safeguard their property, people continue to attempt these crimes. The reality is that you may very well leave a business without remitting payment for your ill-gotten gains or property, but your image has been captured and memorialized on video.
Our department’s detectives work closely with our local retail businesses loss prevention staffs, networking with organizations like Crime Stoppers and working in concert with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners in surrounding jurisdictions to identify, locate and apprehend offenders in these retail theft cases. In short, offenders committing these crimes know this: you may have walked away today, but you didn’t get away with the crime that you committed. You are now a wanted person, and we are actively looking to apprehend and prosecute you moving forward. In other words, warrants don’t have an expiration date.
We still have two suspects that we are actively attempting to identify in this case. We are publishing their images captured via surveillance video in hopes that the public may be able to assist us in identifying them, so we can apprehend and prosecute them as well. If anyone is familiar with either of the two remaining suspects in this case, they are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers, or they may contact the Millbrook Police Department at (334) 285-6832.
