Committee to Elect Dwight “Tray” Richardson III
Dwight “Tray” Richardson III, a lifelong Alabamian, husband, father, and experienced legal professional, has officially announced his candidacy for Elmore County District Court Judge Place 2. Richardson enters the race with more than two decades of experience across the justice system and a commitment to integrity, fairness, and respect for the rule of law.
Richardson began his career in law enforcement, where he developed a deep understanding of public safety, accountability, and the constitutional limits placed on government authority. He later became a criminal defense attorney, representing individuals and families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. That experience, he says, shaped his understanding of how judicial decisions directly affect people not just cases.
“Every ruling impacts real families, real livelihoods, and real futures,” Richardson said. “A judge must never lose sight of that responsibility.”
As a husband and father, Richardson believes the courtroom must be a place where justice is applied firmly, fairly, and equally without regard to social status, political pressure, or personal connections. He emphasizes that victims deserve to be heard and protected, the guilty must be held accountable, and the innocent must have their constitutional rights preserved.
Richardson is a first-time candidate for public office and says his decision to run was driven by a belief that the bench should be occupied by judges who are independent, disciplined, and guided solely by the law not politics or public opinion.
“I’m not running to make headlines or advance a political career,” Richardson said. “I’m running because Elmore County deserves a judge who has been in the trenches, understands the full justice system, and will rule based on the law every time.”
Richardson describes his campaign as “battle tested and bench ready,” focused on restoring trust, balance, and common sense to the courtroom.
