Derrick Sims was arrested for DUI and charged with manslaughter after a crash, Dec. 13, 2025, on Coosa River Parkway in Wetumpka, which left Holtville Elementary School custodian, Terrell Crosby, deceased at the scene.
“This is a terrible situation,” said Maj. Josh Barfoot of the Wetumpka Police Department. “It is our job to ensure that Mr. Sims is held accountable for his actions.”
The crash occurred on the west end of the Coosa River Bridge shortly before the Christmas on the Coosa parade. Crosby had three passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash, all of whom sustained injuries, police said. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional or upgraded charges may be filed.
Note: A criminal charge is an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
