Sara Kylee Colburn, Morgan Avery, Macy Troup, and Kenley Carter are Prattville High School seniors and cheerleaders who auditioned for and made Spirit of America (SOA), a 600-plus member squad of all-star cheerleaders and dancers created exclusively for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
“Our moms gave us the idea to tryout, and we thought it would be interesting, so we decided to give it a shot,” said Colburn.
The audition requirements for SOA include an application and a performance video of an individual or team cheering or dancing, showcasing their skills and techniques. Performers are also required to be 14 to 18 years old.
“We all had to submit a 2-minute video, so we each sent in our All-American Cheer tryout video, which was a jump, a cheer, and a dance,” said Avery.
Those who are selected for SOA have a fully packed schedule leading up to the parade. From hours of rehearsals and a Broadway show to chaperoned fun-filled activities throughout New York City, each performer is guaranteed an unforgettable experience.
“When we found out we made it, we were like ‘OH MY GOSH, WE ARE GOING TO NEW YORK,’” said Troup.
The 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on Thursday, Nov. 27, at 7:30 a.m. (our time) on NBC.
