The Welcome Food Pantry is a faith-based nonprofit organization that serves to help fight food insecurity in Elmore County.  According to the website, they follow the Alabama food assistance (SNAP) program guideline as a reference for eligibility. Income limits are based on household size, but they also give the disclaimer to reach out, even if those guidelines are not met.

On September 1, 2025, Michael Lambert took on a new role within Welcome Food Pantry, following three years of volunteer service to the organization.

“I felt the Lord tell me to step up and step into the director role, which I knew little about,” said Lambert. I get her help as well as our volunteers who help keep me focused on the many tasks involved in an operation this big.”

Lambert shared that Welcome Food Pantry operates 100 percent from volunteers and donations. He also added that it is most important to him that people are treated with respect, and they adapt to the different challenges that they encounter each day.

When asked how he measures success beyond the meals being served, Lambert stated, “I believe our success is in the number of volunteers who have followed the leading of the Lord and are so willing to give of their time, talent, and abilities to aid those who are experiencing food insecurity in our community. Beyond food, we are able to share our faith, which we all believe is the most important thing we get to do.”

With three years of volunteering prior to his new role as Executive Director and his heart for this organization, he shares his favorite part of working with Welcome Food Pantry.

“I get to work with a lot of really wonderful people, who have been very patient with me, and I have the honor of being a part of helping those who come to the pantry experiencing food insecurity.”

As far as anything new for programs or benefits within Welcome Food Pantry, Lambert says that they have partnered with the Heart of Alabama Food Bank to provide emergency food boxes to those affected by the government shutdown.
