From: CJ Robinson District Attorney 19th Judicial Circuit
Chilton County
State of AL v. Cupid Seymour (CC-2025-110)
In April of 2025, 50 year old Cupid Seymour, of Verbena, was found guilty of Cruelty to Animals, a Class A misdemeanor. Seymour was sentenced to one year in the county jail, with 180 days imposed, and two years of probation. He was also ordered to pay $3500 in restitution and a $1000 fine. Cupid Seymour appealed his conviction, and this week the case was retried in Chilton County Circuit Court where he was again found guilty by a jury of his peers.
Seymour is the owner of Cupid’s Dog House, a dog obedience training facility in Verbena. In September 2024, Karen Black enrolled her four month old puppy, Chloe, in Seymour’s dog obedience training course. Chloe was boarded with Seymour for three weeks before Seymour informed Ms. Black her beloved family pet had died. A necropsy conducted at the Deerfoot Animal Clinic showed the deceased animal had no food in its GI tract. Prosecutors called a veterinarian to testify as to the amount of time it would have taken for there to be nothing in the GI tract. The State’s witness testified, in her opinion, this would take three to five days to happen.
Circuit Judge Patrick Pinkston is set to sentence Cupid Seymour on November 13th at 8:30 a.m.
“I am grateful for the work of our prosecutors and law enforcement officers, who strive to protect those who cannot protect themselves, including the animals who are members of our families,” District Attorney CJ Robinson stated. “Research shows a strong correlation between animal and human cruelty, with individuals who abuse animals being significantly more likely to commit violent crimes against people. We are committed to doing everything in our power to prevent both behaviors.”
