Earlier today the Prattville Independence Day celebration kicked off with a parade beginning at the Autauga County Courthouse, through historic downtown, and ending at the newly renovated Stanley-Jensen Stadium.

Floats loaded with people, throwing candy or trinkets, met with a huge crowd cheering them on. At the front of the parade was this year’s Grand Marshall, John Blumentritt, an Air Force veteran, university professor and longtime vintage vehicle enthusiast. As the parade rolled, the excited crowd gathered up toys and goodies thrown, cheering to the colorfully decorated floats.

Following the parade, the crowd filtered down to Pratt Park, where the Lions Club was having their annual Barbecue sale. They were joined with many other vendors selling their wares and offering treats and showcasing their business. Some made their way to Pratt Pool for the exciting and watery Cardboard Boat Race.

Participants were challenged to build boats out of cardboard, pool noodles and duct tape to race across the pool without sinking. Not all were successful, but winners were awarded in multiple categories. There were a lot of cheers urging the racers to the finish line.

If you missed out on this morning’s festivities, there is more to come!

Stop by the Academy parking lot at 6:30 p.m. tonight for the “Rock the Lot” concert featuring the Alex Walker Band, and get your fireworks fix, launched from the clock tower, at 8:30 p.m.

Whether you’re enjoying the dancing the night away at “Rock the Lot” or hanging out watching the fireworks, the City of Prattville invites everyone to celebrate responsibly. Stay safe, stay cool, and have a happy 4th of July!
