Global Security Breach Impacts Elmore and Autauga County Schools

Staff Report

Elmore Autauga News

Elmore and Autauga County Schools were informed earlier this week of a global security breach that occurred on December 22, 2024. This incident led to unauthorized access to certain demographic information for both teachers and students.

The Alabama State Department of Education has confirmed that no sensitive data, such as Social Security numbers or passwords, was compromised in the breach. Rebecca Thomas, Communications Coordinator for Autauga County Schools, reassured the public, stating, “The incident has been contained, with no evidence of malware or ongoing unauthorized activity.”

The school districts are working closely with the state department and PowerSchool, the platform implicated in the breach, to ensure a swift resolution and to safeguard against future vulnerabilities.

Parents and staff members are encouraged to stay informed as updates become available. The school districts remain committed to maintaining the security and privacy of their communities’ information.
