As of October 22, Elmore County Public Schools have implemented a new attendance policy to address unexcused absences and truancy, underscoring the importance of consistent school attendance. The revised policy aims to keep parents informed while offering structured interventions to support students in maintaining regular attendance.
Key Points of the New Unexcused Absence Policy:
- 1st Unexcused Absence: A letter will be sent to the parent, notifying them of the unexcused absence.
- 3rd Unexcused Absence: A second letter will be sent to remind parents of the importance of school attendance.
- 5th Unexcused Absence: Parents are required to participate in the Early Warning Program at the juvenile court to address the student’s absences and discuss steps for improvement.
Should a parent fail to attend the Early Warning Program or if the student accrues two or more additional unexcused absences within the school year, a petition will be issued for both the parent and student to appear in juvenile court.
“Our goal is to support every student in their educational journey,” stated an Elmore County Schools spokesperson. “We want to work with parents to emphasize the importance of regular attendance for their child’s success.”
For further questions about the updated policy, parents are encouraged to contact the district at 334-567-1290.
