From the American
Heritage Girls (AHG)
Thousands of hours to be volunteered nationwide to celebrate AHG National Day of Service
American Heritage Girls (AHG), a Christ-centered character and leadership development program for girls ages 5 to 18, demonstrates its core values of faith, service, and fun by serving the community during this year’s annual National Day of Service.
Our local AHG Troop AL0125 from Millbrook Presbyterian Church collected and assembled School Kits and Kids Hygiene Kits for the Mission North American Disaster Response Center. The center supports the relief efforts of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) by marshaling critically needed resources, supplied by God’s people, to communities in desperate need which have been affected by natural disasters and man-induced calamities. School kits are provided to children who have been impacted by a disaster or other traumatic situation to help provide the tools they need for schoolwork. Kids Hygiene kits provide comfort for children who have been affected by disaster.
“Service is the practical expression of a girl’s faith,” says AHG Founder and Executive Director Patti Garibay. “Watching girls grow in their faith and experiencing them discovering their God-given purpose through the development of servant hearts is the greatest achievement of American Heritage Girls.”
The National Day of Service coincides with the non-profit’s birthday each year. Starting in 2012 and continuing each year, this annual commemoration serves as a way for AHG Staff and Troops to give back to their communities through gifts of service rather than receiving gifts. Beginning with the National Day of Service 10-year anniversary in 2022, AHG has annually promoted a particular area of service to unify Troops in a common cause.
AHG introduces each year’s community engagement NDS resources as a “Service Spotlight” that relates to the annual Program Year Theme. This years’ Service Spotlight—Seeing and Meeting Needs—was chosen in support of AHG’s 2024-2025 Program Year Theme, VISION, as girls learn to see the world through the EYES of Christ:
Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?” The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
(Matthew 25:34-40, NIV)
