In her junior season, Billingsley Softball’s Sadie Primm established herself as one of the best hitters in the state of Alabama after a monster season at the plate. Primm was named Class 1A First Team All-State by the Alabama Sports Writers Association and selected to the AHSAA All-Star game. She was also named as the Class 1A Hitter of the Year after posting impressive statistics. She had a .518 batting average, .566 on base percentage, and 1.090 slugging percentage.
Primm earned All-State honors with 13 home runs, 12 doubles, 6 triples, and 52 RBIs.
She attributed her effectiveness at the plate to the mindset she has getting in the batter’s box.
“When I’m in the box I really like to clear my mind, take a deep breath and take the first pitch because most likely it will be a strike. The pitcher of course will try to get ahead in the count so I like to get ahead instead,” Primm said.
The rising senior has committed to continue her softball career at MMI. “My commitment to MMI felt so unreal. When I met Coach Jeff Benson I knew from the very first moment I wanted him to coach me. He has the personality, grit, and want of a good player and that’s what I strive to become. He wants to create not only good athletes but good people. The campus is beautiful and so historic. It’s close to home and the people are so welcoming.”
Before heading off to college, Primm will have one more season at Billingsley to add to the honors she’s already earned. “My team goal for next year is to be a leader of the team. As a leader I don’t mean a boss, I strive to be a relatable individual and not bossy. I want to be an upperclassman that the younger girls can look up to. As an individual I like to set examples because you don’t know who’s watching you. Whether it’s a college coach, or 10 year old girl.”
Primm herself just started playing the game in 7th grade at the insistence of her mother, who told her that it would be fun. Just a few years later, and Primm is 1st Team All State and committed to play softball in college. She already has several goals in mind for when she gets to MMI.
“My athletic goals in college are to become more confident, but not arrogant, in anything I do in my sport. My academic goals are to keep As and Bs and keep up with my studies. Since I’m going to a two year, I will be getting my core classes done and I plan to major in business at a four year in the future to carry on my family’s business. My goals as of right now for the future are to follow the path the Lord has set for me and to be flexible in any situation and trust in Him.”
