Elmore, Autauga, and Montgomery Country residents can have their estate planning documents drafted free of charge.
Getting a Will, a Financial Power of Attorney, Health Power of Attorney, and a Living Will drafted can be an expensive proposition. For residents over 60 years of age in Autauga, Elmore or Montgomery Counties, there is another option: having estate planning documents executed free of charge. The client’s income is not a factor in qualifying for any of these free services.
Central Alabama Aging Consortium in Montgomery offers this service through their staff attorney. If the client desires a Last Will and Testament, the only additional requirement is that the client must own real estate. There is no such requirement to have a Financial POA, Healthcare POA, or a Living Will prepared.
The process is straight forward. “Clients contact CAAC by calling 334-240-4680 and ask for the Intake Department. They will provide some basic information and a Will questionnaire will be mailed for the client to complete,” says CAAC staff attorney, Lee McIver Jordan, Esq. Once the questionnaire is returned, Jordan then calls the client to discuss their estate planning needs and answers any questions they may have. After that initial phone consultation, an appointment is set for the client to come into the CAAC office to execute each document.
“Having an estate plan is one of the greatest gifts people can give their loved ones,” said Jordan. Central Alabama Aging Consortium makes this a simple feat to accomplish.
