Nicholas Steinmetz, of Wetumpka, Arrested and Charged with Millbrook Theft

INFORMATION FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON, MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

A Wetumpka man identified as Nicholas Steinmetz, 27, has been arrested by Millbrook Police charged with Theft of Property 3rd Degree.

On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, Millbrook Police responded to a complaint from Walmart loss prevention personnel, which stated that they had observed an individual inside the business, who had committed several thefts from the business over the past several weeks.

Prior to their arrival, the suspect left the business. Loss prevention personnel provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle as he was leaving the area. Responding officers located the vehicle nearby and conducted an investigative traffic stop.  Steinmetz, was positively identified by Walmart loss prevention personnel as having committed an alleged theft from the business on August 8, 2023. Steinmetz was subsequently placed under arrest, being charged with Theft of Property 3rd Degree. Steinmetz was transported to the Millbrook Police Department for processing and later transported to the Elmore County Jail, without incident.

“In speaking with our detective working this case, apparently Walmart loss prevention personal have positively identified this individual in several other alleged thefts from the business committed over the past several weeks. That being the case, we anticipate more felony theft charges being filed against Mr. Steinmetz on behalf of the victim business,” stated Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson.

“As I’ve stated on numerous occasions, Walmart has an excellent surveillance system and employs loss prevention personnel, who take their job very seriously. I wouldn’t recommend committing theft or any other crime in our city. That said, I certainly wouldn’t recommend trying your luck at Walmart. We work very closely with their loss prevention staff and our officers are prompt in their response to these calls and in locating and apprehending individuals suspected of theft. In those cases that involve amounts that constitute felony charges, our investigators work with our District Attorney’s Office to present these cases to the Elmore County Grand Jury to ensure that these cases are prosecuted to the fullest extent. All other cases are prosecuted in the Millbrook Municipal Court. No matter the venue, I can assure you that any thefts committed in Millbrook or Elmore County will be prosecuted should the alleged offender be apprehended. It’s a losing proposition.”
