Autauga County Probate Judge, Kim Kervin, along with the City of Prattville, hosted a 9/11 Memorial this morning at the Public Safety Building, to honor those lives lost in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Kervin opened the ceremony by thanking those who worked hard to make the event happen and by thanking our city’s First Responders. A visual memorial of 2,977 flags were placed to symbolize the lives lost on that fateful day, 21 years ago. City Council President Lora Lee Boone presented the “Honor Flags” which were two large American Flags embossed with the names of the heroes and citizens from the 9/11 attacks.
Kervin invited the children in attendance to lead the Pledge of Allegiance to a flag at half mast, and then had those same children present flags to the Chiefs of each of the city’s first responder organizations – Fire, Police, and Sheriff.
Mayor Bill Gillespie shared remarks on the tragedy of September 11, sharing that this event changed the course of history and that all would remember exactly where they were the day the Twin Towers fell. Gillespie encouraged everyone to always remember those who lost their lives and for citizens of Prattville to remain united; when you see something, say something He thanked the tireless efforts of all those who serve in the military, First Responders, and praised the work of those who hosted this beautiful ceremony.
The event ended in prayer and then “Taps” was played.
