GULF SHORES — Details are emerging following the arrest of a Millbrook man with ties to a local cheerleading program who has been charged with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse following an investigation by the Gulf Shores Police Department.
According to the GSPD, officers responded about 1:30 a.m. July 3 to a disturbance at a hotel in the 1700 block of Gulf Shores Parkway. Officers spoke with two adult women, an adult man and a juvenile who told investigators they were in Gulf Shores staying at the hotel.
Police said one of the adult women reported she had resisted forcible sexual advances by a family member earlier that evening. Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to investigate.
As a result of the investigation, Todd Sterlin Trolinger Jr., 37, of Millbrook, was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
Publicly available business and social media profiles identify Trolinger as the owner and head tumbling instructor of Cheer Pro Athletics, a competitive cheerleading and tumbling program based in the Millbrook area. He also has been affiliated with the Baldwin County High School cheer program.
“This remains an active investigation,” Detective Carl Wittstruck said in a news release.
Wittstruck said the Gulf Shores Police Department has partnered with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to expand the investigation.
Investigators ask anyone with information related to the case to contact the Gulf Shores Police Department at 251-968-2431 or [email protected]. Anyone with information about similar incidents outside the department’s jurisdiction is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency.
Trolinger remains in the Baldwin County Corrections Center as of Tuesday.
