The Stanhope Elmore High School boys bowling team has claimed the 6A-7A state championship and is now preparing for a chance to compete on the national stage.
The Mustangs have an opportunity to travel to Columbus, Ohio, in June 2026 for the national bowling tournament, which features both singles and team competitions. The event is expected to attract numerous college coaches, providing athletes with added collegiate exposure.
Stanhope Elmore will become the first team from Alabama’s 6A-7A classification to compete at nationals. Twenty-two other teams from across the country have previously participated, and the Mustangs hope to add Alabama to that list.
Head coach Kenny Wilson was recently named Coach of the Year by the Alabama High School Bowling Coaches Association.
“He does so much for both teams, and nobody knows bowling like he does,” said Bridget Wilson, girls’ bowling head coach. “From watching every frame to cleaning balls, adjusting grips, and even making sure kids have the equipment they need, he’s the epitome of a school coach. We’re very fortunate to have him, and he’s truly deserving of Coach of the Year.”
“Coach of the Year usually goes to the winning team, so I have to thank the kids for that because they’re the ones who executed,” said Kenny Wilson, boys bowling head coach. “They had me worried going into the final game down 18, but they came back with nearly a record performance. All the credit goes to them for buying in, making changes, and coming together to win.”
With a state title secured and national competition ahead, Stanhope Elmore’s boys bowling team is poised to put Elmore County on the map as it looks to compete among the nation’s best.
