The Marbury Bulldogs Flag football team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 1A-5A playoffs for the second year in a row. In 2025, Marbury was led by 10th grade quarterback Emma Hays. The Bulldogs had an 8-4 record in the regular season and defeated Booker T. Washington 12-7 in the 1st round of the playoffs, and B.C. Rain 20-7 in the 2nd round of the playoffs. In her sophomore season, Hays passed for 22 touchdowns, rushed for 6 touchdowns, and converted 3 extra point attempts. As a result of the successful season, the Elmore Autauga News has named Hays as the Autauga County Flag Football Player of the Year.
“It feels absolutely amazing,” said Hays. “I’m extremely honored, but none of this would have been possible without my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, my teammates, coaches, and the support of our community.”
The Bulldogs advanced to the quarterfinals of Class 1A-5A in 2024, their first season with a flag football program. They followed that up with another trip to the 3rd round of the playoffs in their second season, which saw regular season wins over Billingsley, Alabama Christian Academy, Calhoun, Marion, LAMP, Charles Henderson, Wetumpka, and Wilcox Central.
“The key to our success came from the hard work that was put in for many months, and the commitment to excellence throughout the offseason into the season,” said Hays.
Of all the big moments and wins the Bulldogs had in 2025, one in particular stood out for Hays.
“My favorite moment from this season was coming back against BTW from being down to advance to the second round of the playoffs. This moment was special because I had the whole team behind me and they believed in me to help get them the win. Plus, after we won, we went to Buc-ee’s and listened to music the whole way back to school,” said Hays.
Hays hopes to lead the Bulldogs even further next season.
“My goal for next season is to lead my team to the Final Four and hopefully a state championship win.”
