The Stanhope Elmore High School JROTC Raiders team brought back 1st Place overall this weekend, after competing in the Grissom High School Raid competition.

Fourteen members of the Raider team competed, bringing home multiple awards.

The team won in the following categories and Placed as the Overall Winner for the Meet. All awards include:

1st place over all mixed team

1st place on the obstacle course

1st place raider fitness challenge

2nd place Tire Flip

2nd place 1.25 Mile Team Run

3rd place Cross Country Rescue Run

SFC Wayne Kindley and CSM Nathaniel J. Bartee, Sr., said they are incredibly proud of this team, and particularly as this is their first year taking part in competitions.

The cadets we spoke to said one of the toughest competitions was Cross-Country Rescue. This competition came at the end of the day and included tremendous physicality and agility.

The SEHS JROTC program has a long history of excellence, and it is no different under the leadership of new instructors with SFC Kindley and CSM Bartee. This year marked a lot of firsts for them, and the cadets.

Recently the Elmore County Commission, City of Millbrook and Elmore Public School system donated proceeds for an obstacle course and rappelling tower which will soon be constructed on school property. Not only will the Cadets be able to use this facility for training, but also area first responders. Tournaments can now be hosted at SEHS, and the training it offers for SEHS cadets is immeasurable, SFC Kindley said.

“Most of the teams that we compete against who win National competitions, have a similar course at their school,” Kindley said. “I think having our own is going to make a tremendous difference and prepare us for competitions.”

Please help us congratulate the SEHS JROTC program, instructors and the cadets. It has been an amazing first year for the new instructors and cadets.

We also thank Colonel (RET) Bonasera and SFC Chambers for their many years of service to the SEHS JROTC program.
