Millbrook residents enjoy a service offered by the city for picking up limbs and other debris, which is a great service to have. However, all that debris has to go somewhere.
The city has been taking it to acreage owned by the city on Thornfield Road near the Sewer Plant, but it has become a large amount. The city cannot burn the debris, nor bury it due to environmental laws. Currently the debris covers the ground of around four acres and grows daily.
To handle this, the city recently awarded a bid to HG Erosion Control at a cost of $49,200 for mulching and grind the debris.
In the bid specification for the handling of debris it reads, “To provide mulching/grinding services for the City of Millbrook. The City of Millbrook provides a daily service to pick up limbs and other natural debris for its residents. These limbs and natural debris are dumped and stacked at 627 Thornfield Drive in Millbrook. The amount increases daily.”
This project is expected to begin soon and there is good news attached. Mulch will be offered FREE to Millbrook residents. The city discussed possibly selling the mulch, but Mayor Al Kelley suggested, “Just give it away!”
The details have not been worked out, but we will let everyone know when there is a plan, hours of operation, etc. The grinding of the debris could begin as early as next week.
