Located in the Central area of Wetumpka, Sunshine and Pixie Dust isn’t just a business, it’s a place for people to come and explore their creativity.

Founded by Cherie and Jason Taylor, the art studio opened its doors as a brick-and-mortar establishment in August 2023, marking a new chapter for the Taylors.

Cherie’s journey began in Louisiana, where crafting was her escape from the demands of a full-time career as a computer programming supervisor at Louisiana State University. What started as a relaxing hobby soon transformed into a part-time business. Over time, Cherie’s passion for creating wreaths, bows, and bottle cap art gained momentum, and she began teaching small classes in her home and rented spaces.

“It was never something I envisioned doing full-time,” Taylor said. “But after COVID and the challenges it brought, I knew I needed a change. God led us to Alabama, and He has guided every step of our journey.”

In 2020, the Taylors relocated to Wetumpka, allowing their family to reunite after years of living apart due to work.

Initially, Cherie continued her career remotely, but by 2021, she decided to leave her job and dedicate herself to Sunshine and Pixie Dust full-time. Starting with a small booth in Amy’s Antiques, Cherie taught crafting classes and hosted painting parties, gradually building a following.

The turning point came when the couple discovered an old collision center in Wetumpka. With countless prayers, and hands-on renovations, they transformed the space into an art studio. Sunshine and Pixie Dust officially opened its doors on August 26, 2023, providing a welcoming environment for people to create, relax, and connect.

“We want Sunshine and Pixie Dust to be a joyful sanctuary,” Taylor explained. “Our customers become family. They know they can come here to create at their own pace and find peace.”

“Brittni Smith is our Art Designer and Instructor and God placed her in my path to help me on this journey,” Taylor stated. “She has been such a blessing to me.”

The studio offers a variety of crafting and painting classes. Whether it’s a girls’ night out or a business’s Christmas party, Sunshine and Pixie Dust provides a space for people to unwind and explore their artistic side.

The Taylors’ mission extends beyond art. Sunshine and Pixie Dust supports a different charitable organization each month through initiatives like “Paint and Pizza” fundraisers and “Paint Kits for a Purpose.” Beneficiaries include St. Jude’s Hospital, the Humane Shelter, the Food Pantry, and the Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

“St. Jude holds a special place in my heart,” Taylor said. “A family member of mine received life-saving care there, and we’ve known many others whose lives were touched by their work. Giving back is our way of showing gratitude and helping others.”

Cherie credits her success to faith and perseverance. “Everything I’ve done is through courage led by God,” she shared. “This path wasn’t something I planned, but it’s exactly where I’m meant to be. Sunshine and Pixie Dust is my testimony, and I hope to share that joy and peace with others.”

The studio promotes their events through its social media and will soon have an email newsletter. They are located at 10351 Central Plank Road Wetumpka, Al.
