Millbrook man arrested after vehicle and foot pursuit

FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, officers with the Millbrook Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit initiated a traffic stop on Coosada Parkway, north of Davis Drive, with regard to an individual wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for Domestic Violence 3rd Degree. When officers initiated the traffic stop, the individual continued north on Coosada Parkway, later changing direction, heading southbound on Coosada Parkway, still refusing to stop. The suspect vehicle turned onto Davis Drive, continuing at speeds up to 60 miles per hour, nearly colliding with a police vehicle. The pursuit terminated in the 4300 block of Davis Drive, at which point the offender, later identified as Martavius B. Jackson, a 34-year-old Millbrook resident, attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended by responding officers.

Jackson was placed under arrest, being charged with felony Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement, Reckless Endangerment and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jackson was transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where he was processed and later transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he remains under a $37,000.00 bond. A hold was placed on Jackson with regard to the outstanding arrest warrant for Domestic Violence 3rd Degree.

We are extremely pleased that this situation was resolved without anyone being injured or worse. I will never understand why people think it’s a good idea to attempt to elude law enforcement, particularly becoming involved in a vehicle pursuit. This young man unnecessarily endangered his life and the lives of other by fleeing from our officers. He knew was wanted. Had he simply pulled over, he would have been arrested and allowed to make a bond and have his day in court. Instead, he made a poor decision, choosing to flee, placing his life and others in danger by his reckless action. As a result, he now faces multiple charges, to include felony Attempting to Elude. Not to mention, when he makes bond on these charges, he still faces an arrest on the Domestic Violence 3rd Degree warrant, which is why officers attempted to contact him in the first place.

The takeaway from this is twofold. Running from law enforcement is never a good idea. More often than not, you’re going to be apprehended. You’re just going to jail tired and with more problems and consequences than you started with. Secondly, arrest warrants are like an illness that may be cured. Until you take the proper steps to take care of it, you carry it like luggage. Had this young man just stopped and allowed himself to be taken into custody, he would more than likely have been released with-in an hour a so, with a court date. Now he faces all these charges and has yet to be arrested on the original charge. Poor decisions have consequences.
