Dec. 1, Village Green Park came alive with light and sound, and the Christmas Spirit was welcomed to Millbrook.
The annual Christmas Tree Lighting continues to grow each year, and this year featured some great entertainment. That included Clemency who sang Christmas Carols, and were joined by some of the Millbrook City Seniors. Also bring their talents to the evening were the Coosada Elementary Singers, Airport Road Intermediate Singers and Dancers, Millbrook Middle School Band and Stanhope Elmore High School Band and singers.
Special thanks to Lead Pastor DJ Stinard of The Gathering Place Church, and church members. Stinard led the opening prayer and shared the story of Jesus’ birth. Church members manned the live Nativity, and it is much appreciated.
The SEHS Diamond Club sold baked goods, hot chocolate and pizza as a fundraiser for the baseball program, but ran out quickly! It was a huge crowd that filled the park this year.
Thank you to Bill Roberts who was the emcee for the evening.
For the tree lighting, Mayor Al Kelley invited council members and other officials onstage for the official countdown. However, the Grinch arrived and tried to stall the festivities with an entertaining interaction with the Mayor.
But with a countdown restarted from 10, the park was soon live with color, and shortly thereafter the crowd near the tree was blanketed with “snow.”
Thank you to the Spirit of Christmas Team, Parks and Recreation, all City Departments, Special Events Director Danae Morgan and many volunteers for making the tree lighting and decorations in the park possible.
The park will remain illuminated throughout the Christmas season into the New Year. Please bring your family and take the opportunity for some wonderful photos.
