Millbrook families will have two new options to take their children to a playground. Last week the City Council approved the purchase of new playground equipment for Legacy Park on Deatsville Highway and Minnie Massey Park on Grandview Road.
“Councilwoman Jacquelyn Thomas had approached me and Mayor Kelley about this several months ago, and here we are,” Parks and Recreation Director Scott Davis said. “We have found the playground equipment. We are actually getting two units at half price at two different locations.”
Purchased will be two Gametime play structures and accessories for a total of no more than $87,838.66.
With so many issues concerning shipping right now across the country, the timeline for when the structures will arrive is up in the air, Davis said.
“We haven’t been given an exact time line because of all the issues, but we are hoping by the first of the year,” he said.
“Quality of life is something we really work hard to constantly improve,” Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley said. “Whenever we are able to offer something like this, we really want to continue making improvements.”
Minnie Massey Park is the newest park for the City of Millbrook. From its original construction several years ago, the completion of a walking trail, installation of restroom facilities, the park continues to increase services.
“We think this will be a really nice addition for the families in that area,” Kelley said.
Also last week, the Council also authorized the Mayor Al Kelley to enter into a contract with David Bulger Inc. for demolition services of two old houses on Grandview Road, near where the new Senior Citizen Center is currently under construction. The cost is not to exceed $12,000. The houses have now been reduced to rubble, but the Millbrook Fire Department had been using them for training purposes prior to demolition.
“These houses are in between City Hall and the Municipal Building,” Kelley said. “The Senior Citizen Center construction is going great, and I just hated to have those two old houses sitting there with all that going on across the street.”
The Council also approved the purchase of lawn equipment for the Pines Golf Course. It includes a zero turn mower at a cost of $11,500 and a mowing tractor at a cost of $36,352.
