Foster families who have opened their homes and hearts to children in need will be honored, May 8, 2026, at 6 p.m. during the third annual Ivy’s Gala: A Night of Gratitude 2026, a community celebration focused on strengthening support for local children in foster care.
The event, held at the Wetumpka Civic Center, 410 S. Main St., Wetumpka, will recognize foster parents across Elmore County and encourage residents to continue to “be the village” for children facing uncertain futures. With more than 60 children currently in foster care in Elmore County alone, organizers say community involvement remains critical.
Ivy’s Closet works year-round to provide clothing, beds, car seats, and other essentials to foster families, helping ease financial strain and reduce some of the trauma often associated with entering the child welfare system. Organizers say that these necessities can offer children not only comfort but also dignity and stability during difficult transitions.
This year marks the first time the Elmore County Juvenile Court has partnered with Ivy’s Closet and the Elmore County Department of Human Resources to host the annual gala. Organizers say the collaboration highlights a shared commitment to strengthening foster care services in the community.
The evening will celebrate the dedication of foster parents while raising awareness about how neighbors, businesses, and faith groups can support children and families in need.
By bringing the three agencies together, the gala underscores a unified goal: ensuring every child in Elmore County has a safe, supportive place to call home, and that the families who care for them never stand alone.
“We want the community to come and support our foster families and how important they are,” said Carter Taunton, a juvenile probation officer. “We are going to have a lot of fun at the event. We will have a few guest speakers. Josh Johnson will serve as our master of ceremonies, weather permitting. There will be a silent auction, with all proceeds benefiting Ivy’s Closet. We will also have a variety of vendors. Guests can stroll through the event to get a tattoo or permanent jewelry, stop by a 360-degree photo booth, buy loaded teas and coffee, and create their own bouquet arrangements. It promises to offer something for everyone.”
Beyond the music, vendors, and celebration, the evening serves as a reminder that foster care is a shared responsibility. It is an opportunity for neighbors to show up for one another, to lift the families who open their doors to children in need, and to affirm that every child deserves safety, stability, and a sense of belonging. On May 8, the community will gather not only in gratitude, but in unity, standing together to ensure no child or foster family feels alone.
