Since 1966, Box Tops for Education has helped elementary and middle schools across the country raise money for the things that make a real difference in students’ everyday lives. At its heart, Box Tops is about communities coming together to give schools a little extra support so students can grow and thrive.
Prattville Elementary School is already seeing that impact firsthand. The school recently received its first Box Tops for Education check of the year for $145, the largest amount earned in more than six years. It’s a meaningful milestone and a great example of what can happen when families work together.
Jessica Hurlbert is a parent volunteer and the school’s Box Tops coordinator. The idea of bringing Box Tops back as a fundraiser came from a new military family who recently joined the Prattville Elementary community. Inspired by their suggestion, Hurlbert stepped into the coordinator role in September 2025 with a shared goal in mind: raising funds to help purchase new playground equipment for the students. Together, the school community is now working toward an exciting goal of $500.
“I am a parent trying to help the school, teachers, and students in any way I can. I think if more people knew how easy this was, they would help, too,” said Hulbert.
Getting involved is simple and something everyone can do. Traditionally, participants have collected box tops from boxes that participated in the Box Top program. Now, box tops are being received digitally by going on the Box Tops app and submitting receipts. Families can scan the QR code on the flyer, which takes you to the Box Tops app, where you create an account, Prattville Elementary School is already selected, and then you can scan receipts that include Box Tops-eligible products. Every qualifying purchase adds up, and you can watch the school’s total grow in real time right in the app.
Make sure to submit receipts within 14 days of purchase, or shop using a connected Walmart account to automatically earn rewards for the school. The app also offers bonus opportunities to earn even more, making it easy for everyday shopping to turn into meaningful support for Prattville Elementary’s students.
